Leading into the Licking Heights’s football game vs. Watkins this Friday, a food drive is taking place this week, where Watkins and Licking Heights compete to donate the most cans. These donations will be taken to the Pataskala League Center and then distributed to people and families in need within our community. Coach Boyer emphasizes how important it is to donate food. He explains how he believes if you help people, people will help you, and people are meant to serve, not receive. He explains how participating in this food drive helps our community flourish by teaching students the importance of service, how it makes the holidays more enjoyable for those in need, and how it is simply just the right thing to do. Last year, as a district we donated 15,185 cans and the high school specifically, donated 4,278 cans. This year’s goal as a district is to donate 17,000 cans and 5,000 cans from the high school. As of now, at the high school, we have donated 1,646 cans. With only one day left, hope is still not lost. If everyone donates even just two cans tomorrow, we could reach a total of over 3,000 cans. The final amount of cans donated will be updated tomorrow morning. Until then, please try to donate food to those who are in need!
Update: The Licking Heights school district ended up donating over 15,000 cans. Unfortunately, as a district we did not meet our goal of 17,000 cans. However, we should still be proud of raising as many cans as we did and just strive to donate more next time! As for the high school, we achieved and exceeded our goal with 5,323 cans. We should all be proud of meeting our goal! But, also let it be known, that we can still continue to donate and give back to our communities each and every day!
