Penn State Head football coach James Franklin has been fired after a loss to Northwestern after being 21.5 point favorites. After the Nittany Lions started the 2025 season off ranked #2 behind only Texas, they started off the regular season going 3-0. Franklin has been on the hot seat since 2016 after a loss to ranked Michigan. Penn State has pretty much been called the “doorstep” to the top 10 because they can get it done against teams outside the top 10. Franklin has a record of 4-21 over teams ranked inside of the top 10, which makes him known as “the coach who can’t beat top 10 teams”. This was a surprise to some as they thought Penn State would fire Franklin after the 2025 season ended. After the Nittany Lions started 3-0, They dropped a 30-24 2 overtime loss to number 6 Oregon. After the loss to Oregon, Penn State fans thought they had an easy so called “business trip” as they traveled to unranked 0-4 UCLA. To all college football fans’ surprise, UCLA got out to a hot start going up 27-7 at halftime. Penn State almost came back in the second half putting up 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to get the job done and Penn State is the victim of the “biggest upset in our lifetime” as they lost to UCLA”. After the loss to UCLA, fans were livid, taking to X and destroying James Franklin on twitter, saying how he should be fired and how bad of a coach he was. To put the icing on the cake, Franklin goes to X and tweets, Lets go Nittany Nation, 1-0 this week #Northwestern #Northwestern #Northwestern, Fans absolutely destroyed him on that tweet and said once again that he should lose his job. Funny enough, after this tweet, Penn State lost, Drew Aller got hurt, and the entire stadium is chanting “fire Franklin” as he walks off the field. The next day, Franklin is fired from Penn State and he is living well as The University owes him $56 million dollars. The second biggest buyout in NCAA football history.
